To place the safer tech law on the 2028 ballot, Massachusetts requires collecting more than 75K certified voter signatures. To guarantee success, our signature gathering occurs in two phases.
2026: Signature Phase 1 ~ Vetting & Building Phase
c. September 16, 2026: Distribute PDFs and printed packets to approved circulators. Note: by law, the Secretary of State must have printed the petitions by the 16th of September, 2026.
- Objective: Test operations, building awareness and public support, and gather feedback on our petition initiative. For feedback, evaluate public and expert responses on our petition. As far as testing our operations, evaluate volunteer questions, material needs, and resulting signatures.
Late Autumn 2026: Phase 1 Data Collection & Town Clerk Filing
- Action: Gather initial sheets and submit them to Town Clerks for local verification, during open hours or by appointment. The state-wide deadline is Nov. 18, Wednesday, before 5 PM, but not all clerks are open on Wednesday.
- Objective: Test local clerk processing times, our delivery efficacy, evaluate signatures, and identify strong locations.
Winter 2026 – Summer 2027: Review & Building Phase
- Campaign Assessment: Analyze campaign needs and expand our volunteer network, training, and education.
- Feedback, Expert Review, & Listening Tour: Continue to analyzing petition, reviewing public feedback and sharing the text with relevant experts.
- August 2027 Resubmission: Officially resubmit an upgraded version of the initiative to the state.
Fall 2027: Phase 2 ~ The Ballot Push
We hit the ground running utilizing the massive support and organization secured during Phase 1.
September 12-14, 2027: Distribute PDFs and printed packets to approved circulators.
- Campaign Objective: Gather voter signatures in high-traffic zones, add supporters, educate and listen to feedback.
Late Autumn 2027: Phase 2 Town Clerk Filing
- Signature Objective: Gather initial sheets and submit them to Town Clerks for local verification.
- Dec. 1, Wed.: Provide 74,574+ Certified Petitions to the Secretary of State in Boston
2028: State Legislature Vote
- 2 May, Tuesday, 2028: Last Day for State Legislature to Vote to Pass Petition Initiative without 2nd Round
2028: Signature Drive Round 2
- May 3, 2028: Request New Printed Petitions
- Round 2 Signature Collection: Collect 12,429+ Signatures & Submit to Town Clerks
- June 23, 2028, Wednesday (before 5 PM): Last Day to Submit Signatures to Town Clerks for Certification for Round 2, but some clerks are closed on Wednesday.
- July 5, 2028, Wednesday: Submit 12,429+ Certified Signatures to Secretary of State in Boston
2028: People’s Vote on Ballot Questions
- Tuesday, November 7, 2028: Massachusetts’ voters decide whether to pass the proposed petition for a law through a ballot question.
